Flashback: 8 seconds to look, 30 to remember
Flashback is a memory test built on GTA V's streets. The scene appears for 8 seconds, disappears, and then you pin it from memory. It suits players who already know the map and want a GTA 5 map guessing mode where what you notice matters more than how long you look.

How a Flashback round works
A game has 5 rounds. Each begins with an 8-second viewing phase in which you can look around and zoom, but not walk. Then the scene is hidden and a 30-second guessing clock starts. The map is yours for that half minute, and the panorama does not come back until the result.
Viewing time never counts against you. Preparation, the 3-second countdown and the 8 seconds of viewing are all separate from the guessing clock, so your 30 seconds start only when the scene disappears. The on-screen prompt says it plainly: trust your memory.
Scoring in Flashback
Flashback uses the standard accuracy curve, worth up to 5,000 points per round. The speed bonus also applies, up to 10% of your accuracy, and its clock starts after the viewing phase ends. A pin in the first few seconds of guessing keeps nearly all of it.
Memory fades, so the bonus and your recall pull in the same direction. If you knew the place while it was on screen, pin it at once. If you are unsure, spend a few seconds rebuilding the scene before committing, but always answer: a blank round scores 0.
Solo, party and practice
Flashback is available solo and in an invite party. Official solo runs with all regions count toward the weekly leaderboard. In a party every player watches the same 8-second scene, so each round becomes a direct comparison of who noticed the detail that mattered.
Flashback is also a useful training tool. Solo runs show which areas you only recognize while looking at them and which you can actually place from memory. Those gaps are worth revisiting in Classic, where you can walk around and confirm what you half remembered.
Flashback tips
Spend the first 2 seconds on a full turn, then zoom on the single most unusual thing you saw. One strong detail is easier to recall than 5 weak ones.
Put the scene into words while it is visible. "Beach, pier, Ferris wheel" survives the 8 seconds better than a vague picture.
Note where big landmarks sat relative to the road. Remembering that the hills were on your right often puts the pin on the correct side of a district.
Decide the region while the scene is still up. Use the guessing clock for fine placement, not for choosing between city and desert.
Always register water. The ocean, the Los Santos River channel and the Alamo Sea are easy to remember and among the best anchors on the map.
