Trilocator: three views, three distances, one target
Trilocator is the puzzle mode. Instead of the target itself, you get 3 reference viewpoints and how far each one is from a hidden spot. It suits patient players who enjoy geometry as much as geography, and it puts a fresh twist on the GTA GeoGuessr idea.

How a Trilocator round works
A game has 5 rounds of 120 seconds. Each round gives you 3 stationary viewpoints: you can look around and zoom in each, but not walk. Every view comes with its distance to the target. The references are distinct, well separated and never in a straight line, and their exact coordinates stay hidden.
The job has 2 steps: work out where each viewpoint is, then find the point that sits at the right distance from all 3. A measuring tool gives you one editable circle, with a center you place and a radius in meters. Your answer pin stays separate from that circle.
Scoring the hidden target
The answer pin is scored like Classic: up to 5,000 points on the accuracy curve, plus a speed bonus of up to 10% for a manual guess, spread across the full 120 seconds. Because the target is hidden, a small mistake in placing one reference can shift your answer by hundreds of meters.
That makes accuracy the priority. Taking an extra 20 seconds costs less than 2% of your accuracy points in bonus, while misplacing one reference can cost thousands. Official solo runs with all regions go on the weekly board, ranked by average points per round.
Solo and party Trilocator
Trilocator is available solo and in an invite party. Region settings apply to the references as well as the target, so a Custom game limited to Los Santos gives you 3 city viewpoints around a city target. That is a gentle way to learn the circle tool before playing the full map.
In a party, everyone works from the same 3 views and distances. Because the solution is logical rather than lucky, the reveal is often instructive: players can compare which reference they misplaced and how far that one error pushed their final pin.
Trilocator tips
Place the easiest reference first. Pick the view with the clearest landmark, center the circle on it and set its distance as the radius.
Let the ring do the work. The target must lie on that circle, so you only need to find where the other 2 distances agree along it.
Mind the scale. A reference 800 m away keeps the target in the same neighborhood, while one 4 km away could put it across the city or out in Blaine County.
Use the third distance as a tiebreaker. If 2 references leave 2 candidate points, the third one should rule one of them out.
Move the circle freely, but remember that only the answer pin is scored. Place it deliberately before the clock runs down.
